The Bike Co-op provides an all-inclusive, do-it-yourself work space for beginners to experts, with all the tools and expertise needed to fix or build your bicycle.

Through our workshops, cycling resources, advocacy, and outreach we promote healthy sustainable living, while empowering students and community members to take control of their transportation.

Workshops & Events

We hold free workshops on a regular basis. Registration is not required and all materials and tools will be provided – including the bike!

Workshop topics include:

  • Wheels: Tires, tubes and truing
  • Brakes: Types, installation and troubleshooting
  • Drive train: Shifters, derailleurs and gears
  • Bearings: Headsets, hubs and bottom brackets

We also run fun and exciting events all year long. Some of our most popular events include the Bike Rave, Bike-in Movies, Bike Brewery Tours, Spring Prep Day, and Tour de France rides.

Policies

 Language

Language that is discriminatory, hurtful, or perpetuates any form of oppression is not tolerated at the Co-op.

 Membership

Undergraduate students and staff are automatically members and have free access to all Co-op services and assistance. Members of the community are asked to pay a $5 yearly membership fee, if it is within their means.

 Donated Parts

Donated bicycle parts are free for member use and can be reserved in advance. We ask that members use this freedom reasonably and without the intent of personal profit. We gladly accept donated parts, which can be dropped off at the Co-op or at the SFUO main office in the University Centre (85 University Pvt, Room 07).

 Ordering Parts

Co-op members can make personal orders through our supplier. These orders must be paid in advance at the suggested retail price and will be included alongside Co-op orders, which are periodic and irregular. We can also recommend local bike shops within the city that have quality parts.

Volunteer with our Centre

The Bike Co-op couldn’t exist without the dedication and interest of its volunteers.
Volunteers take shifts to assist the bike mechanic, provide free tune-ups in teams, and work on campaigns and promotions. We ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of 4 hours every 2 weeks.

Our volunteers get some nice perks in return including a Bike Co-op T-shirt, employee pricing (50% off), and free snacks! Find out more
