Update from the VP University Affairs

July 21, 2017

Hello everyone!

My name is Axel Gaga and I am the Vice President University Affairs of the Student Federation.

I’m writing to you today to describe the projects that I’ve been focused on since I started on May 1st. I have really enjoyed my job so far and I want to take the time to explain my work to uOttawa students!

My job involves a mix of administrative work and meeting with students and university administrators; I really enjoy the variety of tasks in my day to day schedule.

I am responsible for advocating on behalf of students and the lobbying the university administration. On top of that, I manage the Student Rights Centre, the U-Pass program, and the Campaigns Department.

Over the past few months, I have worked on several files. I started my mandate by jumping right into summer U-Pass distribution, where we piloted two machines for students to refill their U-Passes. We are already working to prepare for September distribution, when you can expect shorter lines than last year!

The Campaigns Department is hard at work preparing to launch two large campaigns next year. We are focusing our advocacy work primarily on sexual violence and mental health. These are two issues that matter a lot to students, which is why the SFUO will serve as a loud voice on these issues.

Thank you very much for reading my update! Remember that you can always let me know if you have any of issues to bring up with the university administration.

Until next time,

Axel Gaga
