Combining Benefits

Combining your benefits is a good way to maximize your health insurance and potentially recover all your expenses. It is, however, important to know that there will be no refunds for amounts higher than the amount corresponding to the total amount paid. You can submit a claim to your second insurance plan for only the portion not covered by your first insurer.

Coverage with your employer

If you have coverage with your employer (not your spouse), you must submit your receipts to your employer’s insurance company and then submit the non-covered portion to the SFUO insurance.

Coverage with your parents or spouse

If you have coverage with your parents or spouse, you must submit your receipts to the SFUO insurance then claim it through the other insurance. If you have children, the parent whose birthday falls earliest in the year submits their children’s claims to their plan first. The balance can then be submitted to the SFUO plan.
