Coverage: Travel Insurance
What the coverage includes
Your SFUO Health Plan covers 100% of your eligible expenses up to a maximum of $2,000,000 per trip. Travel dates must be within 90 days for the insurance to be valid.
Eligible Expenses:
- Usual and customary charges for a semiprivate room, physician's services and other covered charges over and above the government medical program when incurred as a result of unforeseen illness or accidental injury occurring while the participant is traveling outside Canada for a period not exceeding three months.
- Hospital out-patient services
- Diagnostic X-ray and laboratory test
- Nursing service up to a maximum of $3,000
- Transportation expenses:
- by air ambulance or other means up to a maximum of $1,500;
- additional fare to accommodate transportation by stretcher including the return fare of a qualified medical attendant;
- expenses to return a vehicle up to $750;
- repatriation of the deceased up to $3,000;
- board and lodging up to a maximum of $1,050 for the patient or an accompanying family member;
- return of a dependent child under the age of 16 up to a maximum of $2,000;
No benefits are available for insured persons traveling outside their province of residence primarily to seek medical advice or treatment, even if such a trip is on the recommendation of a physician. No benefits are available for elective (non-emergency) treatment or surgery while traveling outside the province of residence, which reasonably could be delayed until the insured person, has returned to their province of residence. Coverage is limited to expenses incurred as a result of a sudden illness or accident, which occurs outside the participant's province of residence. Pre-existing conditions will be covered as a benefit; provided the condition is stabilized prior to travel and medical attention is not anticipated during the travel period
