The Government of Quebec requires that all Quebec residents have some kind of prescription drug insurance. If you don’t have coverage through an employer or a private plan you must register for prescription drug insurance provided by the Régie de l’assurance maladie de Québec (RAMQ). The Government of Quebec, however, does not recognize the SFUO Health Plan so uOttawa students must subscribe to RAMQ unless otherwise covered by a parent, spouse, or employer. You can choose to keep your SFUO Health Plan and use it along with the RAMQ plan to enjoy complete coverage.

For more information call RAMQ at 1-888-435-7999

Combining SFUO Health Plan and RAMQ Benefits: If you are covered by both the SFUO Health Plan and RAMQ the SFUO Health Plan offers a maximum annual contribution of $904 per insured adult, 100% co-insurance in excess of $904, including drugs covered by RAMQ. You should submit your claims as follows:

  1. Present your RAMQ card at the pharmacy and tell the pharmacist that you are registered with the RAMQ plan. Your prescription will be processed with your government coverage taken into account.
  2. Pay any deductible or co-payment at the pharmacy.
  3. Send your original receipts to Assumption Life for reimbursement of any deductible or co-payment not covered by the RAMQ plan.
