Emergency Food Hamper

The emergency food hamper is the equivalent of three days worth of food.  The number of items in a hamper increases with the number of people in a household.  Members of the university community are welcome to access the emergency food hamper service a maximum of once per month.  The items in a food hamper vary according to availability, but one can expect to receive the following: fruits, vegetables, proteins, pasta or rice, soup, bread, deserts, cereal, dairy products, beverages, snacks, condiments and household or hygienic products.  We try to accommodate the best we can for all dietary restrictions (ex. allergies, vegetarianism, Kosher, Halal, etc.).

Good Food Box

We are pleased to offer the Ottawa Good Food Box program on campus.  The Good Food Box contains a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, mostly from local suppliers.  The Good Food Box comes in $10, $15 and $20 sizes, and we are now offering a $5 fruit bag.  Organic boxes are available July through November for $25. It is especially affordable because the produce is bought locally and in bulk.  Anyone can order a Good Food Box once a month.
To order a Good Food Box, drop by the SFUO Food Bank during the first week of the month. You can pick up your order the third Wednesday of that month, between 4 PM and 7PM.  (An e-mail reminder will be sent out.)

Workshops

A new initiative this year, we plan to provide monthly workshops in collaboration with other services on campus. The workshops will range from cooking instructions to budgeting to learning about community resources. Keep checking our [Events page] for updates.  If there is something you would like to see, please send us an e-mail at foodbank@sfuo.ca or drop by our office.

Recycling

Calling all ink cartridges and cell phones! Drop off your old or used cell phones and ink cartridges at the SFUO Food Bank.  We send them to the Ottawa Food Bank who disposes of them properly and receives money back. A double win!
We also collect empty egg cartons and plastic bags.

Online Recipe Book

We know that cooking on a budget is hard. And we understand that you may not always know how to cook the vegetables you got in your Good Food Box that month.  That’s why we are currently working on an online recipe book where you can search for recipes by ingredient, by dish or by budget.
