New Volunteers!

Looking to get involved on campus? The SFUO Food Bank is a great way to start! Volunteering at the SFUO Food Bank is an extremely rewarding experience that gives you the chance not only to get involved in the Student Federation, but in your community as well.
Volunteers have the option of working at the SFUO food bank or being part of the events team: Meal Exchange!! Meal Exchange is a student-founded, youth-driven, registered charity that looks for student solutions to local hunger. Within the SFUO Food Bank, our Meal Exchange chapter runs programs such as Trick or Eat, Skip A Meal, Clear The Shelves and Hunger Awareness days.  These programs collect food and monetary donations to be redistributed to the Ottawa community. Of course, you are welcome to dedicate your time in both areas.

Food Bank Volunteers can expect to:

  • Welcome and serve users
  • Process food donations and stock shelves
  • Help with the maintenance of the office.
  • Do data entry of hunger statistics
  • Help in the organization of small food drives
  • Help with the operation of the Good Food Box Program
  • And don’t forget… BE APPRECIATED! We hold volunteers appreciation activities that vary every month!

Meal Exchange (events) Volunteers can expect to:

  • Be part of a MX committee, ex: Promotions & Education, Community Outreach, Campus Relations, etc.
  • Participate in MX events, ex: Trick or Eat, Clear the Shelves, Hunger Awareness Day, etc.
  • Develop leadership and communication skills
  • Learn about local hunger
  • Communicate with other MX members across the country
