FAQ

Q: Who is eligible for the U-Pass?
A: Students who are registered full time.

Q: I am a Co-op student can I get the U-Pass?
A: As long as your status is full time while you are a COOP student you are eligible for the U-Pass.

Q: I do not qualify for any of the exemptions, and do not want the U-Pass
A: With the universality of the U-Pass program, unfortunately all students that qualify for the U-Pass and do not fit any of the exemption criteria are still charged for the U-Pass.

Q: It is past the exemption date but I still want to get exempted
A: Unfortunately, no exemptions can be accepted or processed after the exemption deadline. Please note that this is a strict deadline and that no exceptions will be made.

Q: How much is the U-Pass per semester??
A: The cost of the U-Pass  is $197.52

Q: What happens if I am part time, can I still get a U-Pass?
A: No, unfortunately the U-Pass is only available for full time students only. You can only get the U-Pass if you are part time and registered with Access Services.

Q: What happens if I am part-time for one part of the summer and full –time for the other?
A:
• You are charged for the U-Pass as long as you are registered as a full time student for one of the summer sessions. So if you are unregistered for the summer session May-June but registered full time July-August, you are still charged the full cost of the u-pass, and can pick up your U-Pass at any time during the summer session.
• We highly encourage students to register early for their classes if they are going to be full time in order to best benefit from the U-Pass for the whole summer.

Q: What happens if I register late but I am still full time, can I still get my U-Pass?
A: If you happen to register late for your classes, your account will still be charged the full cost of the U-Pass and you will still pick up your U-Pass as long as you are a full time student. However we highly encourage students to register early in order to benefit fully from the U-Pass.

Q: What if I am full time but I am not charged for the U-Pass?
A: This may be based on numerous possible issues. Please contact us at u-pass@sfuo.ca.

Q: If I am only registered full time for half of the summer, do I pay half of the u-pass cost?
A: No. Regardless of the summer session for which you are registered, if you are full time your student account will still be charged the full U-Pass cost of 197.52$. For these reasons we encourage early registrations for students that plan to be full time in order for them to fully benefit from the U-pass.

Q: I am full time but I do not want the U-Pass because I either walk, cycle or drive to school. How do I opt out of the U-Pass program?
A: Unfortunately, if you are a full time student living in Ottawa or Gatineau you are eligible for the U-Pass and cannot opt out unless you qualify for the exemptions outlined on our exemption form. We cannot exempt you from the U-Pass program because you walk, cycle or drive to school as it is not part of the exemption options. Please note that every year the SFUO fights for the U-Pass to include more exemption options for those that do not wish to use the service.
